Alfred Charles Uveges, Sr., DDS, age 92, of Coweta, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Senior Suites in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Dr. Uveges was born on January 23, 1934, in Rivesville, West Virginia, to John Uveges, Sr. and Elizabeth (Toth) Uveges. He graduated from Rivesville High School before attending Fairmont State University. He later earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine.
Following dental school, Dr. Uveges proudly served his country in the United States Navy Dental Corps, retiring with the rank of Commander after 38 years of distinguished military service. Throughout his career, he practiced dentistry for 45 years, including many years in Fairview Park, Ohio, before retiring in 2005.
A respected leader in his profession, Dr. Uveges served as President of the Cleveland Dental Society, District Representative of the Pierre Fauchard Society, Delegate to the Ohio State Dental Association and the American Dental Association, and President of the Case Western Reserve University Dental Alumni Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of Fairmont State University and was a faculty member at both the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. His commitment to dentistry and education earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and students alike.
Outside of his profession, Dr. Uveges enjoyed golfing, woodworking, spending time outdoors, and loved watching the goldfish in his pond. Above all, he cherished his family and the time they spent together.
Dr. Uveges is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lee Uveges; his children, Ruth Elizabeth Uveges Adams and husband Jay, Alfred Charles Uveges II and wife Linda, and Beth Ann Uveges and partner Dan Rhyand; his grandchildren, Ryan Peticca and wife Lauren, Thomas Peticca, Emily Adams Philbin and husband Trenor, Claire Adams Sweetow and husband Jacob, Cambelle Shai Uveges, and Alfred Charles Uveges III; his great-grandchildren, Cooper Peticca, Harrison Peticca, and Lincoln Peticca; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Uveges, Sr. and Elizabeth Uveges; his wife, Mary Lou Shurmer Uveges; his daughter, Cathy Sue Uveges; his granddaughter, Julie Ann Ipser; his sisters, Irene Konya and Matilda Uveges; and his brothers, Zoltan Uveges and John Uveges, Jr.
Dr. Uveges will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, military officer, and accomplished dentist whose dedication to his profession and his patients spanned more than four decades. His legacy of leadership, service, and excellence in dentistry will continue through the many lives he touched, both professionally and personally. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
