Billy Joe Gardenhire, Jr.

July 25, 1958 — May 11, 2025

Catoosa

Billy Gardenhire, Jr., a man of quiet dignity and a keen analytical mind, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the age of 66 in Catoosa, Oklahoma. He was born to the late Billy Gardenhire, Sr. and Ruth (Garton) Gardenhire Moore on July 25, 1958, in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Billy sustained a spirit of resilience and simplicity.

A graduate of Union High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Billy went on to honorably serve his country through the United States Navy, which instilled in him a sense of discipline and structure that he carried into his civilian life. Upon completion of his service, he successfully applied his skills to the role of armed nighttime security, a position he held with dedication until his retirement.

Billy found a home at the Rolling Hills Care Center in Catoosa, where he was not just a resident, but was a cherished friend to many, forming strong and lasting bonds with his community through shared time and experiences.

Although recluse by nature due to his nocturnal work, Billy found joy in his solitude. He was an avid chess player and delighted in the simple pleasure of improving his marksmanship at the shooting range. What truly brought light into Billy's life was the bond he shared with his nephews, Bobby and Tommy.

Billy is preceded in death by his father Billy Gardenhire, Jr., his mother Ruth Moore and stepfather Dave Moore. He leaves behind his sister Sharon Lay, his nephews Bobby Pierce and Tommy Pierce, as well as the many great-nephews and nieces who will carry forward his legacy.

His memory stands as a testament to a life lived with intention and the quiet strength of a gentle guardian.

A service to honor Billy will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 1:30 PM at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, in Fort Gibson, OK.
