Bonnie Jean Parkerson, age 80, lifelong resident of Coweta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, September 23, 2025, at Forest Hills Care Center in Broken Arrow, OK. She was born on August 15, 1945, in Coweta, OK to Delmar Edgar and Imogene (Battenfield) Gilbert. Bonnie's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and vibrant community involvement that touched many hearts.
Bonnie grew up in Coweta, where she would eventually meet and marry the love of her life, Benny Ray Parkerson, on July 25, 1969. Their union was blessed with 56 years of shared memories and two loving sons, Brady and Barry Parkerson, who were the center of her world along with her adored grandchildren, Zach, Rayna, and Macklin Parkerson.
A 1963 graduate of Coweta High School, Bonnie's youthful spirit was evident in her involvement as a senior class queen, the annual queen, and being voted the prettiest in her class. Her passion for music and dance was showcased through her role as a majorette and twirler in the band. These early years set the stage for a life filled with joy, beauty, and a love for the arts.
Bonnie's professional life was as diverse as her interests. She began her career as a beautician before venturing into the world of entrepreneurship alongside her husband. Together, they owned and operated BP Auto Parts for 16 years and Benny's Auto Sales for 10 years. Bonnie also dedicated 6 years as a secretary at Bob Gilbert Towing until her retirement in 2007.
Her love for flowers and gardening was only matched by her passion for dancing and rock and roll music. Bonnie's greatest love, however, was for her family. She cherished every moment spent with her sons and grandchildren, creating a legacy of love and devotion that will live on in their hearts forever. She formed lifelong friendships with Sister-in-law Janie Fellers and Donna Ann Miller. Her cherished trips with Margie Satterfield and Barbara Dotson were sources of great joy and laughter in her life.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Benny Parkerson of the home in Coweta, OK; sons, Brady Parkerson of Coweta, OK and Barry Parkerson of Coweta, OK; grandchildren, Zach Parkerson, Rayna Parkerson, and Macklin Parkerson; brother, Jerry Gilbert and wife Elvie of Coweta, OK; sister-in-law, Janie Fellers of Coweta, OK; nieces, Janna Brown, Tammy Slape, Gina Burgess, Jennifer Dunford, Dana Parkerson, and Connie Corley; nephew, Kent Blair; and a host of other relatives and dear friends who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar Edgar and Imogene Gilbert; nephew, Kirt Morris; sister-in-law, Bobbie McCoy; and brother-in-law, Danny Parkerson.
Bonnie's life was a beautiful reflection of her heart: full of love, grace, and the joy of living. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her memory will be cherished forever.
