Carol Ann (Larance) Smith was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She spent her life caring for her family and loved nothing more than spending time with them.

Carol graduated from Ruston High School in 1970 and Louisiana Tech University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She married her high school sweetheart, Joe C. Smith, on November 25, 1972. What began as a young love grew into a lifelong partnership of more than 53 years. Carol spent more than 30 years working in accounting, including the last 20 years of her career at Helmerich & Payne before retiring in 2014.

Carol adored her three sons, Brad, Randy, and John Michael, and her six grandchildren, Sophia, Blake, Max, Asher, Wyatt, and Emma. Being their Mamma was one of the great joys of her life. Whether in Oklahoma, Texas, or California, she made it a priority to be there for the things that mattered most to them — from football, baseball, and basketball games to dance recitals and graduations, and all of their milestones along the way.

Carol and Joe took their three boys all across the country skiing, hiking, and spending time at the beach. One of her favorite trips with Joe was a month-long trip to Europe to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, starting with a 21-day Mediterranean cruise, followed by a week exploring Italy and Germany. But she loved a two-day trip away just as much as a month-long European adventure. What mattered most to her was having special time with Joe and with the people she loved.

Carol loved Ravensburger puzzles, fantasy fiction books, country music concerts, and Olive Garden chicken parmesan. She enjoyed making chicken and dumplings for her family, and her grandchildren will always remember Mamma’s pancakes with mayhaw syrup from Louisiana.

Carol leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, traditions, and stories that will continue to be shared for generations. She will be deeply missed by Joe, her family, and the many friends and loved ones who shared in her life.
