Das Yazzie passed away in his home on Monday morning, September 8, 2025, in Coweta, Oklahoma. Das was born on December 22, 1945, in Ganado, AZ, into the To’aheedlíinii Clan born for Kinyaa’áanii, Clan. He was an active member of Native Stone Baptist Church, and he was faithful to his loving Almighty God.
Das enjoyed yard work, creating furniture from scrap materials, watching western shows, listening to gospel music in his Navajo language, collecting ink pens, and cheering for his favorite NBA team, the Los Angeles Lakers. He truly loved the game of volleyball. He played for many years and also became a high school referee. Later, he played for his senior citizen chair volleyball team, but he had a difficult time staying seated. Das also enjoyed making notations in his Bible from several sermons that had resonated with him. He had several hobbies and activities, but none compared to spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his soft-spoken voice and with a cup of coffee, Das told many stories of his youth and his days of herding sheep and playing marbles in his homeland to his family and friends. He was a well-liked person who greeted others with “Hey, Guy,” and a handshake. Friendship was important to him.
Das is survived by his wife, Margie Yazzie; his children, Zena Stafford (and her spouse, Wade Stafford) and Jerome Yazzie; his grandchildren, Jade Stafford-Bourne, Alexis Gaines, Jace Stafford, Tema Yargee, Cade Yazzie, Isaac Yazzie, Nevada Yazzie, Lilee Yazzie, and Rome Yazzie; his great-grandchildren, Cruze Bourne and Presley Bourne; Becky Ferrell, the mother of Isaac, Lilee, and Nevada, who remains an active part of the family; five sisters; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members.
Das was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bessie B. Yazzie, one sister, three brothers, and one son, Warren “Wes” Yazzie.
