Darlene was born on August 24, 1940, in Dawson, Oklahoma, to Sherman Salisbury and Pansy Viola (Smith) Salisbury. She attended Union Schools in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Darlene dedicated much of her working life to serving others as a school bus driver. She began her career driving a bus for Broken Arrow Public Schools before later driving a dump truck for McMichael Trucking, where she met the love of her life, Billy Owen Trundle. On April 5, 1982, Darlene married Billy Owen Trundle in Miami, Oklahoma. Together they shared many wonderful years until his passing in 2007.
Darlene never met a stranger. She had a warm, welcoming personality and a gift for making everyone feel like family. She was a talented seamstress who loved quilting, reading, thrifting, and spending time with those she loved most. She also enjoyed square dancing, trying her luck at the casino, and traveling with her beloved companion, Jim Vandiver. Her kindness, generosity, and servant's heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Swatsenbarg and husband, Ronald, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her son, Doug Scism of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Brandy Plowman and husband, Justin, and Brian Swatsenbarg; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Chloe, Kaleb, Olivia, Vivian, Evyn, and Jacob; her brother, Ricky Salisbury and wife, Joan; her sister, Freda Buttery; her dear companion, Jim Vandiver; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Owen Trundle; her parents, Sherman and Pansy Viola Salisbury; her infant son, Forrest Leon Scism; her brothers, J.R., Freddy, Leonard, and Delbert Salisbury; and her sisters, Flossie, Goldie, Sybil, and Dotsie.
