Dennis Edward Gillenwater

December 5, 1952 — November 3, 2025

Dennis Edward “Gilly” Gillenwater, Age 72, passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital South in Tulsa, OK. Dennis was born on December 5, 1952, in Sayre, OK and was the son of Bert and Kathryn (Linn) Gillenwater. In his youth Dennis lived in Berlin, OK and Albuquerque, NM, before moving to Coweta, OK in 1969 with his family. He attended Coweta High School.

Dennis started a family at the young age of 17 when his son Jason was born. He then had his second child, Annie, at the age of 27. Right out of high school Dennis worked with his father doing road construction but after experiencing some hot Oklahoma summers pouring asphalt, he switched up his career choice and became a car salesman. His father would say he was work brittle for that choice, but Dennis excelled as a salesman. He was an excellent salesman and even gained midwestern regional recognition as the top salesman in 1981. Dennis worked at several lots throughout his career, but it was at Premier Pontiac on 11th street in Tulsa where he gained lifelong friends he held until his passing.

Dennis was a jokester and loved being the life of the party. He enjoyed going fishing and coon hunting with his grandpa as a child and continued that passion as an adult. Gilly also enjoyed the cock fights and had raised roosters many times in his life. Dennis had a heart of gold and always doted over his kids and grandkids. Though he loved all his grandkids he had an especially special spot for his Kashy. The last 10 years of his life he had bonded and helped to raise his grandson Kash.

Dennis is lovingly survived by his Daughter, Annie Gillenwater of Valdez, AK and his son Jason Gillenwater and wife Sherry of Vancleave, MS; his grandchildren Kash Inman of Valdez, AK, Caitlin Wilkerson and husband Garrett of Glasgow, KY, Lane Gillenwater and wife Kaliegh of Wool Market, MS, and Jason Taylor Carlisle of Vancleave, MS; his great-grandchildren Harper, Lilah, Levi, Brill and Elliot; He is also survived by his sister, Juanita Edwards of Broken Arrow, OK, Sharon Reed of Porter, OK, and Carol Parker and husband Robert of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in Death by his Father and Mother, Bert & Kathryn Gillenwater, his adopted son Darren Young, his sisters Diana Fletcher and Margie Gillenwater.
