Haskell

Dwight Edward Martin, age 77, resident of Haskell, OK, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in Haskell, OK. He was born on February 7, 1948, in Coweta, OK to Glen Otis and Marie Evelyn (Swartwood) Martin. Dwight's life was one of service, love, and dedication to his family.

Dwight attended Coweta schools until the 4th grade before moving on to Broken Arrow schools. A proud graduate of Broken Arrow High School in 1966, Dwight's sense of duty led him to serve his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Vietnam. His military service, from April 17, 1967, to his honorable discharge on April 8, 1969, was a testament to his bravery and patriotism. Following his service, Dwight furthered his education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK, earning a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.

Dwight's professional life was marked by his commitment to law enforcement. He began his career at the Coweta Police Department as a dispatcher and reserve officer. His dedication and hard work led him to the Broken Arrow Police Department, where he served with distinction for 18 years, retiring in 1993. As one of the first officers in the motorcycle division, Dwight set a standard for excellence and courage.

On January 3, 1968, Dwight married the love of his life, Janice Marie Meadows, in Coweta, OK. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared passions. Dwight's love for cattle and ranching was more than a hobby; it was a way of life that he cherished deeply. His hands were rarely still, as he found joy in tinkering on his vehicles, always ready to take on a new project or lend a helping hand.

A respected member of the Masonic Lodge, Dwight's involvement as a Mason was a reflection of his commitment to brotherhood and community service.

Dwight's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Janice Martin, of the home in Haskell, OK; his sons, Michael Martin and wife Jennifer of Broken Arrow, OK, and Adam Martin and wife Kim of Haskell, OK; his cherished grandchildren, Garren Martin, Ashlyn Miller and husband Luke, Lauryn Martin, Briar Martin and fiancé, Raegann Melon, and Audra Crow and husband Randy; and his adored great-grandchildren, Henry Martin and Evie Miller. He also leaves behind his brother, Gary Martin and wife Linda of Broken Arrow, OK, along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will miss him dearly.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Otis and Marie Evelyn Martin, and his sister, Shirley Vaughn.

Dwight's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His unwavering spirit, kind heart, and the love he had for his family will be the guiding light for generations to come.
