Elsie “Jean” (Simpson) Lewis was born to Charles Elman Simpson and Deborah Anna (Jackson) Simpson in Port Huron, Michigan on March 20, 1927. Jean married her high school sweetheart, Alfred York Lewis, right after high school, and before he had to leave for the Navy during World War II.

Jean worked at Mac & Dave’s Retail in Huntington, West Virginia after high school graduation until retirement.

Jean and Alfred attended Abundant Life Baptist Church in Proctorville, Ohio. In 2021, Jean moved to Aspen Health & Rehab in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where she passed away on May 6, 2025.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Deborah Simpson of Huntington, West Virginia, her husband, Alfred Lewis of Proctorville, Ohio, her son, Jack Lewis of Orange Beach, Alabama, her daughter-in-law, Sandra Lewis of Orange Beach, Alabama, and her daughter, Karen Lewis Henderson Fitzpatrick of Mt. Gilead, Ohio.

She is survived by her son, Steven Allen Lewis (Judy) of Coweta, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, Scott Lewis of Orange Beach, Alabama, Shane Lewis (Amy) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jason Henderson (Kim) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Julie Henderson Gamble of Sunbury, Ohio, Ryan Lewis (Jennifer) of Piperton, Tennessee, Melanie Lewis Lormer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Shannon Lewis Haur (Justin) of Mobile, Alabama; 17 great grandchildren and spouses; 7 great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service was held to honor Jean’s life.
