Broken Arrow

Frank “Darrell” Minter, age 84, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026, in Dallas, Georgia.

Darrell was born on September 12, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas, to Frank D. Minter and Mary Geneva (Watkins) Minter. He was raised in Wichita, graduated from high school there, and later proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1959 until 1963, receiving an honorable discharge. His military service was a source of pride throughout his life and reflected the dedication and work ethic he carried with him in everything he did.

On February 14, 1964, Darrell married the love of his life, Vonnie Marie (Dufault) Minter. Together they shared more than 62 years of marriage filled with love, devotion, adventure, and family. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, and they built a life centered around faith, family, and creating lasting memories together.

Darrell worked as an upholsterer for Mathis Brothers Furniture, where he was known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and enjoyed a life filled with family, friends, and simple pleasures.

Darrell and Vonnie shared a love for travel and enjoyed taking more than twenty-three cruises together with family and friends. In his younger years, he had a passion for restoring classic automobiles, including his beloved “Ole Blue,” a 1940 Ford Deluxe Sedan Delivery, and another favorite known as “Freddie.” He loved loading up the family, turning on the 8-track tapes, and heading out to car shows and cruise nights. Those trips created memories that his family will cherish forever.

Nothing brought Darrell more joy than his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He delighted in every visit, often taking the children for rides in his lawnmower trailer, pushing them on swings, spoiling them with ice cream bars, and simply enjoying their company. He treasured family gatherings and loved having a house full of laughter. One of his family's fondest memories is seeing him wave goodbye as they drove down the long driveway after a visit, never wanting the time together to end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank D. and Mary Geneva Minter; his sister, Diana McQueary and husband Ed McQueary; and his brother, Roger Minter.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife, Vonnie Minter; his sons, Timothy Minter Sr., Terry Minter, and Scott Minter; his daughter, Michelle Hayes and husband Mark Hayes; his brother, Tomas Minter; grandchildren, Timothy Minter Jr., Zachery Minter, Jacob Minter, Dustine Minter, Hannah Minter, Zach Minter and wife Alyssa, Cameron Minter, Nicole Burgett, Andrew Hayes and wife Christian, Josh Hayes, Amber Fields and husband Scott, and Joshua Burgett and wife Sharleen; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory for years to come.

There are no services planned at this time for Darrell.
