Fred David Guthrie, Jr.

September 8, 1964 — May 5, 2025

Coweta

Fred David Guthrie, Jr. began rejoicing in Heaven on Monday, May 5, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer. His departure from this world took place at Southern Hills Rehab Center in Tulsa, OK, marking an end to his earthly suffering and the beginning of eternal peace in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born on September 8, 1964, in Killeen, TX, Fred's life began while his father was serving in the United States Army. He was the beloved son of Fred David Guthrie, Sr., and Charlene Mary Guthrie. The family eventually settled in Jenks, OK, where Fred grew up and completed his education, graduating from Jenks High School in 1983. It was in Jenks that Fred developed his lifelong knack for connecting with people, working alongside his parents and brother at the Guthrie Service Center.

Fred's personal life was enriched by his marriage to Brenda Kay in 1999. Their union was filled with love and companionship until her untimely passing in 2012. In the wake of this loss, Fred found solace in being near family and moved to Steeplechase Apartments in Coweta in 2013.

He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Brenda Kay Guthrie, and his father, Fred David Guthrie, Sr. Fred's legacy continues through his son, Tommy Guthrie, his devoted mother and stepfather, Charlene and Joe Loy, and his brother, Mark Guthrie, along with Mark's family—Stephanie, Jessica, Elizabeth, and Michael—and three grand nieces. His uncle, Gene Hawkins, and cousins, Dewayne, Sheldon, Tammy, Tommy, Shelly, and Treasa and numerous other relatives and friends, will miss his presence deeply.

Fred's life was characterized by his favorite saying, "Don't worry, be happy." This saying was a testament to his optimistic spirit and the joy he spread to those around him. He would want all his loved ones to take comfort in knowing that he is at peace and to continue to embrace life with the same positivity he always displayed.

In his memory, let us all remember to live by Fred's parting words: "Don't worry, be happy." May his soul rest in eternal joy, and may his spirit continue to inspire us all.
