Gloria Jean Barnes

Mar 9, 1946 — May 9, 2026

Coweta

On March 9, 1946, in Coweta, Oklahoma Columbus Sr. and Edna Mae Barnes welcomed the fifth of thirteen children. A beautiful baby girl named Gloria Jean Barnes, or lovingly known by many as “Bush,” “Jean,” and “Glo.”

At an early age, Gloria accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and faithfully dedicated her life to Jackson Grove Baptist Church. She faithfully served in the church kitchen alongside her sister, Geneva. Gloria also took great pride in overseeing Jackson Grove Cemetery. Every Memorial Day weekend, friends and family could find her sitting faithfully beneath the shade tree with her notebook and tin can, warmly greeting loved ones who gathered to honor and remember those who have gone.

Gloria was a hardworking and dedicated woman who spent many years working in both the healthcare field and the food service industry. Later in life, she fulfilled her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. In the early 1990s, she opened her own restaurant, Family Style BBQ, in Haskell Oklahoma, which she proudly owned and operated until her retirement in 2012. Family Style BBQ became a beloved staple in the community, especially known for Gloria’s famous baked beans and chopped brisket. She had a special gift for bringing people together through good food, warm hospitality, and a welcoming spirit that made everyone feel at home.

During retirement, Gloria enjoyed fishing, listening to her favorite blues music (Bobby Bland), Sunday night phone calls with her sisters, and spending time with her dear friend Cookie, visiting thrift shops. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured the moments spent with family and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her significant other, Raymond Mayberry; her parents, Columbus Sr. and Edna Barnes; four brothers, Vohn Curtis Barnes, Carl Edward Barnes, Columbus Barnes Jr., Ricky Joe Barnes; four sisters, Kimberly Patricia Barnes-Worley, Lela Mae Fulsom, Donna Kay Barnes-Atkins, Carrie Manns; and grandson, Christian Goree.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her children, Vincent Goff and Sherry Barnes; Grandchildren-Candace Barnes, Shanterra Goff, Jonathan Goree, Tyesha Goff, Jasmine Duhart, Constance(TJ) Dunn, D'angelo Brewer, Jarel Draper; Great grandchildren- Darrion Johnson, Zaylen Goree, Sha'Rhonda Goff, Cambrie Goree, Remingtin Roland, Alonna Dunn; three brothers, Winston Barnes, Vernon Barnes, Curtis Barnes; two sisters, Geneva Barnes-Goree and Willie (Lee) Peoples; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
