She was born on October 10, 1940, in Cassville, MO, she was the cherished daughter of Virgil Tarvin Vanderpool and Lora Laura (Wallace) Fowler. Hazel's life was a beautiful tapestry of devotion to her family, her faith, and her many creative passions, woven with threads of love and joy.

Hazel's early years were spent in Coffeyville, KS, where she attended school and laid the foundation for a life filled with learning and love. It was in Miami, OK, where she married the love of her life, Donnie "Don" Joe Kerr, on February 23, 1958. She found joy in shopping, garage saleing, and was known for her exceptional cooking and sewing skills. Friday night singings at Joyce Johnson Ministries were a highlight of her week, where she shared her musical gifts with her church community.
