Hazel Doris Kerr, age 84, resident of Coweta, OK, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, April 24, 2025, at the Coweta Care & Rehab Center in Coweta, OK. She was born on October 10, 1940, in Cassville, MO, she was the cherished daughter of Virgil Tarvin Vanderpool and Lora Laura (Wallace) Fowler. Hazel's life was a beautiful tapestry of devotion to her family, her faith, and her many creative passions, woven with threads of love and joy.
Hazel's early years were spent in Coffeyville, KS, where she attended school and laid the foundation for a life filled with learning and love. It was in Miami, OK, where she married the love of her life, Donnie "Don" Joe Kerr, on February 23, 1958. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter, marked by the milestones of family and shared experiences.
Her creative spirit shone brightly in her hobbies. Hazel had a passion for singing, making hats and jewelry, and adding sparkle to her creations through bejeweling. She found joy in shopping, garage saleing, and was known for her exceptional cooking and sewing skills. Friday night singings at Joyce Johnson Ministries were a highlight of her week, where she shared her musical gifts with her church community.
A devoted homemaker, Hazel's greatest joy was caring for her family. She is lovingly survived by her children, Johnny Kerr and wife Charlotte of Coweta, OK, Becky Moss and husband Wade of Coweta, OK, and Russell Kerr and wife Lisa of Haskell, OK; 6 grandchildren, Aaron Moss and wife Jade, Ashley Hoffman and husband Michael, Lyn Todd and husband Buck, Samantha Dickey and husband Adam, Mikki Carter and husband Ted, and Kyle Kerr and wife Sunny; 13 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Courtney, Farren, Billy, Taylor, Logan, Cara, Haly, Brayden, Alyssa, MaKenzie, Waylon, and Xander; her sisters, Mary Sue Huff of Tulsa, OK, Pat Greer and husband Roland of Coffeyville, KS, and Carol Jane Regan and husband Rocky of Alma, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donnie "Don" Joe Kerr, her mother and stepfather, Lora and Johnny Fowler, her father and stepmother, Virgil and Rena Vanderpool, her son, Steven Allen Kerr, and her great-grandson, Michael Dickey.
In her passing, Hazel leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and faith that will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew her. Her warmth, her laughter, and her unwavering support will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be a beacon of light in the hearts of her loved ones.
Visitation for Hazel will be held from 12:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK, with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Services celebrating Hazel's life will take place at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK, with Pastor Joyce Johnson officiating. Hazel will be laid to rest at Haskell Cemetery in Haskell, OK.
