Helen Ruth Abdo

Helen Ruth Abdo, age 81, resident of Broken Arrow, OK, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Village Health Care Center in Broken Arrow, OK. She was born on June 20, 1943, in Idabel, OK to Floyd Eugene and Lorene (Hughes) Pollard. 

Helen graduated from Idabel High School in 1961. She carried the spirit of her hometown with her throughout her life, embodying the values of community and resilience she learned there. Helen's career in administration for the Oklahoma City Parks Department was a very rewarding time in her life.

Family was very important to Helen. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Wendelin and her husband Mike; her siblings, Barbara Whittlesey, Floyd Pollard and his wife Vicki, and Leon (Pete) Pollard; her niece, Stacey Deavenport, and her husband Jeff; her nephews, Steve Powers and his wife Stephanie, and Lance Powers and his wife Eleanor; her great aunt, Cora Lee McAdoo; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lorene Pollard, and her brother, Gene Pollard.

Those who knew Helen will remember her for her big smile and feisty personality, trademarks that made her unforgettable. Her love for cooking, watching Western and investigative TV shows, and indulging in her favorite foods like fried potatoes, Coca Cola, and chocolate, brought her simple pleasures. Helen's love for the color purple, fashion, and music were reflections of her colorful personality.

Helen had a keen eye for fashion trends and enjoyed playing board games and bingo with friends and family. Her early life was filled with chorus, drama, and church activities, where she was baptized at the Church of Christ.

Above all, Helen's greatest love was for her daughter, Lisa. 

The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Village Health Care Center and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care during Helen's final days.

Helen’s spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will be treasured forever.
