Janice LaVern Smith, age 78, resident of Broken Arrow, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, February 22, 2024, at her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born on January 23, 1946, in Stockton, California to Chester “Lindy” and Billie Faye (Lloyd) Duncan. Janice's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and joyful moments that touched the hearts of everyone she knew.
Janice grew up in Chandler, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Chandler High School. Her early education laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work, resilience, and a caring spirit. Janice's journey led her to a fulfilling career as a manager at K-Mart, where she was known for her leadership, warmth, and the genuine connections she made with both staff and customers.
The love story of Janice and Francis Martin "FM" Smith began in Chandler, Oklahoma, where they were united in marriage on September 17, 1965. Together, they built a life filled with adventure and happiness, often found camping, and creating unforgettable memories with their loved ones. Janice's passion for the outdoors was only matched by the joy she found in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Janice's legacy is carried on by her son, Rick Smith, and his wife Amber of Haskell, Oklahoma; her adored grandchildren, Montana Smith, Fancy Smith, and Gavin English; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Newt Smith, Gus Smith, Raylan Smith, Roper Smith, and Willow Campbell. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Linda Barbee, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will miss her deeply.
Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, FM Smith, her parents, Chester "Lindy" and Billie Faye (Lloyd) Duncan, her brother, Russell Duncan, and her sisters, Carol Odom and Wanda Butler.
Janice leaves behind a legacy of love, a commitment to family, and a life that was lived with purpose and joy. Her infectious laughter, unwavering support, and the wisdom she imparted will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma. A graveside service honoring Janice’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Wellston Cemetery in Wellston, Oklahoma.
