Joe Wayne Erwin

April 5, 1939 — July 23, 2024

Broken Arrow

Joe Wayne Erwin, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Broken Arrow, OK, on Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 85. He was born on April 5, 1939, to Olin and Cleo (Harless) Erwin in Broken Arrow, OK. Joe's life was a testament to the values of dedication, service, and family.

Joe's journey began as a proud graduate of Broken Arrow High School in 1957. Following his graduation, Joe answered the call to serve his country and became a proud veteran of the United States Army, dedicating two years to the nation's service.

After his military service, Joe embarked on a fulfilling career with GTE (General Telephone & Electronics Corporation), where he worked diligently as a cable splicer until his retirement. His work ethic and dedication to his job were evident to all who knew him, and he left behind a legacy of professionalism and reliability.

Beyond his family and work, Joe had a passion for the great outdoors. He found joy in fishing, quail hunting, and team roping, activities that not only brought him peace but also provided countless memories for his family and friends. Joe's love for these pastimes was only surpassed by his love for his wife, Kathy Carter, whom he married on May 8, 1964, in Coweta, OK. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.

Joe's heart was always with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Kathy Erwin of the home in Broken Arrow, OK; his devoted children, Sharon Pearson of Broken Arrow, OK, and Shannon Erwin (Shannah) of Owasso, OK; his adoring grandchildren, Tyler Self, Cole Erwin (Cassie), Laney Erwin (Clark), Jessica Godbold, and Peyton Erwin; his sisters, Mickey Glass (Jerrell) of Catoosa, OK, and Penny Anderson (Jim) of Arkansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will miss him dearly.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Olin and Cleo Erwin, his brother, Olen Erwin, and his twin great-grandsons.

A memorial service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Pastor Mike Harris officiating.
