Joy Carver, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Porter, OK, on Wednesday morning, April 30, 2025, at the age of 80. She was born on August 27, 1944, in Muskogee, OK to Custer Danny and Fannie O. (Pell) Allison. Joy's life was a testament to her name, as she brought happiness and care to everyone she encountered.
Joy attended Muskogee Schools, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong passion for learning and helping others. Her academic journey continued as she earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Northeastern State University and Bacone College, followed by a master's degree from Oklahoma State University. Her commitment to education was only matched by her dedication to her profession.
For 33 years, Joy served as a Registered Nurse in Cardiac care at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. Her gentle touch, compassionate heart, and unwavering professionalism touched the lives of countless patients and their families. She was not only a caregiver but also a mentor to many in the nursing community, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and empathy in the field of healthcare.
A devout member of Coweta Assembly in Coweta, OK, Joy's faith was a guiding light in her life. She married the love of her life, Johnny Lee Carver, on April 6, 1996, in Coweta, OK, and together they shared a bond of love and devotion. Joy's interests extended beyond her professional and spiritual life; she treasured the moments spent with her family, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Joy's love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Burkett, and husband Chris of Porter, OK; her grandchildren, Christie Johnson and husband Jimmy of Porter, OK, Jessica Burkett of Coweta, OK, Jerrid Burkett of Porter, OK, and Stanley Burkett and wife Kelsey of Coweta, OK; and her cherished great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Judy Allison of Coweta, OK, Margie Christmas of Coweta, OK, Gary Allison of Harrison, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will miss her deeply.
Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnny Lee Carver, her parents, Custer Danny and Fannie O. Allison, her daughter, Kathy Day, her sons, Tommy Drywater and Dwayne Drywater, and her siblings, Glenn Allison, Tony Allison, Roger Allison, and Danny Allison.
Joy’s life was a beacon of kindness, compassion, and joy. Her legacy will continue to inspire and influence all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation for Joy Carver will be held from 12:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK. Services celebrating Joy's life will take place at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Coweta Assembly in Coweta, OK, with Pastor Steve Lee officiating. Joy will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK.
