Joyce Eileen Long

September 12, 1963 — April 13, 2024

Broken Arrow

Joyce Eileen (Horton) Long, age 60, of Broken Arrow, OK passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Joyce was born on September 12, 1963, to Fred and Evelyn Horton in Great Bend, KS. She was one of four children: Rodger, Vicki, and Brian. In her early school years, the family relocated from Shattuck, OK to Liberal, KS, where she was active in band, playing saxophone, and flag corps, which led to her marching in the 1981 Rose Bowl Parade. After graduating from Liberal High School, she attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

In 1988, Joyce met Darrel Long at Walmart. They were wed on June 10th, 1989, and went on to have two children: Rachel and Nathaniel.

Joyce was always happy and had a smile that would light up a room. She had an infectious joyful aura about her. She was a kind, gentle and caring soul. Her hobbies were watching OU football and crocheting, even if football season was over, she would watch reruns of her favorite OU vs. Nebraska games.

What brought Joyce the most joy were her children and granddaughter. She attended all of Nate's football and baseball games, where you would find her making as much noise as possible, cheering him and his team on. At all of Rachel's horse shows, she could be found helping with the grooming supplies and quick outfit changes until it was time to be in the stands sitting quietly until the placings were called. Watching her granddaughter grow made her happy, and she always said it was, "like watching a little Rachel".

Joyce was preceded in death by her father Fred Horton, mother Evelyn Barton, brother Brian Horton, and brother in-law Terry Hammond.

Joyce is survived by her stepfather Norman Barton of Wagoner, former husband Darrel Long of Broken Arrow, daughter Rachel Long, significant other Cody Harper and granddaughter Marie Long of Haskell, son Nate Long and significant other Sara Graham of Broken Arrow, brother Rodger Horton and wife Lisa and children Erin and Alex of Winfield, KS, sister Vicki Hammond, niece Tracy Hammond and great niece Madysen of Liberal, KS, great nephew Trenton Hammond, significant other Vanessa and children Annaleigh and Thiago of Derby, KS.
