Lucy Karan
Dobbins
Dec 5, 1933 — Sep 5, 2026
Coweta
Lucy Karan Dobbins, age 92, of Coweta, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Canoe Brook in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born on December 5, 1933, in Coweta to Fred Lee Byers and Agnes Ruth (Wright) Byers.
Lucy was raised in Coweta and attended Coweta schools, graduating from Coweta High School. Her life was one marked by hard work, compassion, and a genuine love for caring for others.
Throughout her working years, Lucy wore many hats. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for Dr. Ronnie Carr, dedicating herself to the care of others. She was also a beautician and cosmetologist and, at one time, owned and operated Family Affair Daycare. Whether she was caring for patients, helping someone feel their best, or looking after children, caring for people came naturally to Lucy.
Lucy married James Lee “Jim” Dobbins on June 30, 1979. They shared their lives together until his passing.
Some of Lucy’s fondest memories centered around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her grandkids dearly and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. Lucy also enjoyed good food and had a strong connection to her church and her faith.
She grew up attending the Methodist church in Coweta, where she also sang. Her family’s connection to the church went back generations, as Lucy’s grandfather helped build the church. That history and the memories made there remained an important part of her life.
Lucy was also well remembered for teaching swimming lessons at her home, creating memories for many children and families over the years. Her home was a place where people gathered, learned, and were welcomed.
Lucy is survived by her two sons, Marty Childress and Craig Childress and wife Annette; her grandchildren, Amber Mashburn and husband Steve, Zeke Childress and wife Erin, Melanie Yocham and husband Dusty, Kevin Childress and wife Mariah, and Keli Naylor and husband Brandon; her great-grandchildren, Abby Leffingwell and husband Logan, Gabe Childress, Zoe Childress, Zayden Childress, Drake Naylor, Avery Naylor, Kameron Childress, Colston Yocham, Collin Yocham, and Declan Childress; her nephew, Greg Byers; as well as other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee “Jim” Dobbins; two sons, Joe Childress and Brian Childress; her parents, Fred Lee and Agnes Ruth Byers; her brother, Bob Byers; and her daughter-in-law, Sheila Childress.
A private family service will be held at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma.
