Margaret “Ruby” Mitchell, age 85, of Inola, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at her home in Inola, Oklahoma.
Ruby was born on January 13, 1941, in Coweta, Oklahoma, to Herschel Bryant Burt and Sylvia D. (Smith) Burt. She was raised in Coweta, where she attended school and graduated from Coweta High School in 1959.
Ruby devoted many years of her life to serving others through her work as a certified dietician. She worked for Broken Arrow Public Schools for 11 years and later retired from Tulsa Public Schools on June 10, 2005. She took great pride in her work and found fulfillment in caring for and serving students each day.
A woman of strong faith, Ruby was a member of the Church of Christ at Whispering Hills in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Her faith guided her life and was evident in the way she treated others. She had a servant’s heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Ruby taught Sunday school for over 30 years, impacting countless lives through her kindness, wisdom, and love for God. She was also active in her community, working in an aftercare program at the Y and volunteering at concession stands for children’s sporting events.
Ruby had a warm and welcoming personality and truly enjoyed being around people. In her earlier years, she sold Avon and Tupperware. She loved cooking, going to church, and spending time with those she loved. Ruby especially adored babies and cherished every moment she had with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found joy in life’s simple moments, visiting with family and friends, sharing stories, and talking about her faith and love for the Lord.
Above all, Ruby loved her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest happiness in being surrounded by those she loved. Her family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication that will be carried on for generations.
Ruby is survived by her sons, James Mitchell and wife Belinda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Bryant Mitchell and wife Becky of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Stanley Mitchell and wife Kina of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; her daughter, Etta Mitchell of Inola, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Whitley Guey and husband Jordan, Raelee Caldwell and her partner Coleby Evans, Keaton Caldwell, Jaylee Champlain, Aaron Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, and Dakota Mitchell; her great-grandchildren, Jayce Guey, Jacoby Guey, Kaegen Figueroa, Tyler Figueroa, Londen Yi, Asher Yi, and Paris Yi; her brother, Everett Burt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
