Raymond Merle Potter departed this world on May 25, 2026, just two days shy of his 81st birthday. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, a testament to the bonds and cherished relationships he cultivated throughout his life.
Raymond was born on May 27, 1945, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to Jay and Lurline (Hester) Potter. Although he was predeceased by his parents and siblings—Betty Denton, Margaret Woodward, Darlene Wilson, Katherine Peterson, Terry Potter, and Oren Potter—their memories and shared experiences remained vibrant in his heart.
Raymond met and fell in love with Barbara Gail Baker from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. They were married on December 15, 1967, their union lasting 58 years. They raised 3 children, Steven Ray, Amy Denise, and Dusten Riley.
Professionally, Raymond worked in the Aviation industry. His tenure at Boeing was marked by numerous achievements, including his contributions to the Space Shuttle—a project that filled his children with immense pride. Raymond was a beloved local coach in Coweta. He possessed a unique talent for nurturing young athletes, instilling a level of competitiveness beyond measure. He inspired them to achieve their best while imparting lessons that extended well beyond the game. When his grandchildren began playing sports he never missed a game. He attended every practice and scrimmage. They brought him so much joy and he was incredibly proud to be their Papa Ray.
Raymond loved to fish and created custom bobbers to give out as gifts. He was an avid gardener and loved delivering fresh vegetables to his family and friends.
Raymond was a longtime member of the Church of God of Prophecy. He was completely devoted to his family, but none more than to his wife Barbara. He committed his life to her in all ways and was an incredible caregiver until his last days.
Raymond leaves behind his devoted wife Barbara, and their children: Steven and wife Lenita of Vernon TX, Amy of Coweta OK, and Dusten of Bixby OK. He was a cherished grandfather to Tyler Self, Cole and Cassie Erwin, Laney Erwin, Payton Erwin, and Mitchell and Gaby Potter. His legacy will continue through his great-grandchildren, Violet and Christopher Potter, and soon to be born Ryder Joe Erwin, who will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandfather's love and accomplishments. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who share fond memories of visiting their Uncle Raymond’s and Aunt Barbara’s house to play with the goats.
Though Raymond's physical presence will be sorely missed, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and community, and his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
May Raymond Merle Potter rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal love of those who cherish him.
