Reta Kate Chance… AKA Judy…AKA Mema… to know her was to love her!
Judy was born Jan 12, 1941 in the small town of Pettit, OK, from humble beginnings grew her legacy.
Judy started college later in life and went on to get a masters degree in education. She became an elementary school teacher and taught 1st and 2nd grade at Haskell and then Porter for 20+ years! This included her granddaughters Desera and Karissa.
Mema loved her and Pepa’s blended family which consisted of 5 children: Kathy, Laura, Lesa, Sheila, and Shon; 7 grandchildren: Joshua, Desera, Caleb, Karissa, Ashlee, Emily, and Brycen; and 6 great grandchildren: Jace, Ryan, Brooks, Karter, Amelia, Bailey, and one more on the way! Her eyes would just light up every time she was in the room with any of them! Time spent with MEMA was always a great time!
Judy had the travel bug and loved to “just go!” Trips with the whole family included flying stand-by to Hawaii which were always an “extra special adventure”! Road trips galore with all the brothers and sisters-in-law were on the top of her list. And every spring, there was a special “girl’s trip” with the daughters, granddaughters, and grand daughters-in-law… Adventure was her spirit! And then there were the OU Sooner football games. Being season ticket holders since the mid 80’s, Mema and Pepa saw a lot of touchdowns, tackles, and tailgates. BOOMER SOONER!
Judy’s favorite holidays were Christmas and the 4th of July!... mainly because it was a great excuse for a big ol’ party! The more the merrier. She would start planning the Christmas menu and gift giving in August… just a few weeks after the 4th of July party was over. Planning was a BIG part of the fun.
Judy’s legacy was in the giving of her heart, her love, her kindness and tenderness… and her forgiving soul. A warm hug and a big smile is how she always welcomed you and what she made you take home. We are all going to miss her while we try and find our way to live life without her.
Judy’s legacy lives on in her family, friends, and many others that she touched along the way.
WE ALL LOVE YOU TO THE MOON!
