Ricky Lynn Holmes, known affectionately to friends and family as “Rick” or “Homer”, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Ascension St. John Hospital in Broken Arrow, OK at the age of 64. He was born on January 19, 1960, in Tulsa, OK to Paul Harvey and Glenda Ruth (Judkins) Holmes. Rick's life was a testament to joy, love, and unwavering humor. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and a loyal brother who brought light and laughter to all who knew him.
Rick grew up in Coweta, OK, where he attended Coweta Public Schools. His early education set the foundation for a life filled with curiosity and a strong work ethic. Rick dedicated many years as a mechanic shop foreman for Dusty Yocham Companies.
Rick married the love of his life, Sandra Kay Walton, on July 9, 1999, in Eureka Springs, AR. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, support, and mutual admiration.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Holmes of their home in Coweta, OK; his children, Robi Holmes of Stone Bluff, OK, Rachelle Holmes and partner Morgan VanBrunt of Hitchita, OK, Melissa Mansfield and husband Matt of Coweta, OK, and Jeff Lormer and wife Erin of Coweta, OK; his grandchildren, Russ Lormer and Mila Lormer; his sisters, Terry Simmons and husband John of Cleveland, OK, and Renea Merryman and husband Denny of Inola, OK; his brothers, Randy Holmes and wife Karen of Coweta, OK, Charles Holmes and wife Laura of Coweta, OK, and Carl Holmes and wife Angelyn of Bartlesville, OK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives who were dear to him.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Glenda Holmes, his father, Paul Holmes, and his brother, Gary Holmes.
Those who knew Rick will remember his calming spirit which never failed to provide comfort to those around him. His quick wit and sharp sense of humor were some of his most memorable traits. Rick had an uncanny ability to bring smiles to everyone around him. Through jokes or storytelling, his humor was as much a part of him as his generous spirit.
A lifelong Oklahoma Sooners fan, Rick eagerly looked forward to game days, cheering passionately for his team. He was also an avid golfer, relishing the hours spent on the course perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of the sport. When not golfing or rooting for the Sooners, Rick could often be found in his shop, known as his "man cave," restoring his vintage truck—a project that showcased his skill and dedication.
Rick's enduring legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
