Coweta

Sharlene Sue Smith, 78, of Coweta, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Coweta Care & Rehab Center in Coweta, Oklahoma.

Sharlene was born on September 20, 1947, in Stroud, Oklahoma, to Marcelious “Sandy” Royer and Vesta (Hodge) Royer. She graduated from Davenport High School with the Class of 1965 and remained a proud Bulldog throughout her life, faithfully attending alumni weekend events whenever she could.

On October 31, 1967, she married Emmett Smith in her family home in Stroud. Together they built a life centered around family, hard work, and helping others. Over the years, Sharlene wore many hats. She was first and foremost a devoted homemaker and mother, but she also worked in a variety of occupations, including operating The Roylette Market convenience store near Stroud, helping establish Emtec Pest Control with her husband, working as a realtor, driving a semi-truck across the country, and serving in several clerical and administrative roles. She was especially proud of her time working for the Sac & Fox Nation, where generations of her family had also served.

Sharlene was a woman of many talents and endless creativity. She loved painting, baking and decorating cakes, sewing clothing and blankets for her children and grandchildren, quilting, crocheting, and tackling just about any project that came her way. A true jack-of-all-trades, she was never afraid to try something new.

She cherished her childhood spent on her family's farm near Stroud and later returned there to enjoy country living, gardening, caring for animals, and helping prepare countless family meals and pies using fruit from the orchard and pecans from the trees her father planted. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved laughing, joking, singing, dancing, and listening to Elvis Presley. She was also a devoted Oklahoma Sooners fan and a longtime fan of The Young and the Restless.

More than anything, Sharlene loved her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was known for her generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need. Those who knew her understood that if someone needed a hand, Sharlene would be among the first to say yes.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Fryer of Coweta, Oklahoma, and Amber Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Ryan Fryer of Coweta, Oklahoma, Brayden Smith (Summer), Caleb Lamb, Daemian Lamb, Crystal Smith, Steven MacLeod (Brittany), and Aaron “AJ” Montgomery (Kelsey); numerous great-grandchildren; the father of her children, Emmett Smith; nephews, Jeff, Scott, Joel, and Robin Lynch and their families of Chandler, Oklahoma; niece, Courtney Lyn Smith of Neodesha, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shelia Crystal Smith; son-in-law, Matt Fryer; parents, Marcelious “Sandy” and Vesta Royer; sisters, Betty Jo Royer and Horatio Louise Royer; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Bob Cook; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Freddie Lynch; nephews, Michael Russell and Bryan Russell; and niece, Bobbie Denise (Russell-Cook) Day.
