Coweta

Steven “Steve” Duane Garman, age 76, of Coweta, OK, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Claremore, OK.

Steve was born on August 9, 1949, in Hanford, CA, to Alphues Forest “Sparky” Garman and Tressie Irene (Hoaney) Garman. He was raised in California and graduated from Lemoore High School in 1968.

Steve proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. His time in the military instilled in him a lifelong sense of duty, discipline, and commitment—qualities that defined both his professional career and his personal life.

After returning to civilian life, Steve dedicated more than three decades to public service with the United States Postal Service, beginning his career in 1974. He retired after 30 years of faithful service, having served as Postmaster in both Coweta and Okay, OK. Even after retirement, Steve continued working, spending three additional years in safety management with Bluebell, where his leadership and attention to detail were highly valued.

Steve was deeply involved in his community and took great pride in serving those around him. He attended CrossPoint Baptist Church in Coweta. He was also an active member of the Coweta American Legion Post 226, proudly receiving his 30-year pin, and he served his community as a member of the Coweta City Council for eight years, always working to make Coweta a better place to live.

In his free time, Steve found joy in the simple things. He loved fishing, woodworking, four-wheeling, and building birdhouses, often sharing his handmade creations with family and friends. A gifted artist and craftsman, Steve took pride in working with his hands and creating something meaningful. He was known for his strong work ethic, quiet generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need.

Above all else, Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he treasured time spent with them.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Garman, of the home in Coweta, OK; his daughter, Stacey Hughes and husband Brian of Greenbrier, AR; his son, Steven Garman and wife Faith of Beggs, OK; five grandchildren, Kelsey Story and husband David, Gracie Woodburn and husband Lantz, Blake Garman and wife Taylor, Khloe Hughes, and Karley Hughes; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt Story, Ava Story, Walker Story, and Wrenlee Woodburn; his sister, Norma Brady and husband Shawn of Grand Prairie, TX; his brother, Jack Garman of Lemoore, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphues Forest “Sparky” Garman and Tressie Irene Garman.
