Van Dendy, Jr., age 84, of Haskell, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at his home in Haskell, Oklahoma.
Van was born on December 19, 1941, to Van Dendy, Sr. and Eula Mae (McAdams) Dendy. He attended school in Garland, Texas. Throughout his working years, he was employed as a machinist in the manufacturing industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical abilities, and dedication to his craft.
Van had a lifelong passion for automobiles, especially classic Ford vehicles. In his younger years, he enjoyed drag racing and spent countless hours working on hot rods and restoring old cars. He also enjoyed collecting old guns and sharing stories from years gone by. His love for classic cars remained one of his greatest interests throughout his life.
A naturally curious man, Van never lost his desire to learn. He absorbed knowledge on a wide variety of subjects and genuinely enjoyed sharing what he knew with others. Whether teaching someone a new skill or helping solve a problem, he always took the time to pass along his knowledge and experience.
Van was fiercely protective of those he loved. He believed in preparing his family to be independent and capable, teaching not only sons but daughters and granddaughters as well. He taught them how to change a tire, change their oil, make household repairs, and safely handle a firearm. He wanted those he cared about to be confident and able to take care of themselves.
More than anything, Van treasured time spent with his family. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, and enjoyed watching his family continue to grow through the generations. He was known for his quick wit, easy laugh, and wonderful sense of humor that brought smiles to those around him.
He is survived by his daughters, Vannita Deborah “Debbie” Dendy of Haskell, Oklahoma, and Elisa June (Dendy) Pannell of Coweta, Oklahoma; his son, Race Allen Dendy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his brother, Jimmie Sarge Dendy of Hernando Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Van Dendy, Sr. and Eula Mae Dendy; and his brother, Bufford “Bill” Dendy.
In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned.
