Darrell Earsel Atchley

Darrell Earsel Atchley, age 87, resident of Coweta (formerly of Wagoner, Oklahoma) departed this life on Wednesday morning, April 7, 2021 in Coweta, Oklahoma surrounded by his family.  Darrell was born on October 19, 1933 in Blue, Missouri and was the son of Earsel and Vira (Hyatt) Atchley.  He attended Finley Engineering School and graduated with his bachelor’s degree.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving from 1952 to 1956.  Darrell was an electrical engineer and worked for Netherton & Associates, Gary Sparks Engineering, and was self-employed until the age of 85.  He enjoyed being a pilot, hunting, traveling, guns, and he loved cars.  Darrell loved his family and they meant everything to him.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Roberta Atchley of the home in Coweta, Oklahoma; two daughters, Michelle Shipman and husband Tony of Coweta, Oklahoma and Sarah Jones and husband Brent of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Adrianne Shipman and fiancé Jerrad Garoutte, Alison Shipman and fiancé George Palmer, Anthony Shipman and wife Sadie, Zachary Jordan, and Matthew Jordan; six great grandchildren, Jaxon, Jade, Jett, Molly, Caroline, and Morgan; one brother, David Atchley and wife Laura of Ardmore. Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Earsel and Vira Atchley and his sister, Joyce Brown.

A memorial service celebrating Darrell’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, Oklahoma.
