Doris Merle Murray

Doris Merle Murray, age 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 3, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. She was born on November 12, 1949, in Broken Arrow, OK to Homer Clinton and Sylvia Christine (Curtis) Willhite.  Doris's life was a tapestry of dedication to her family, hard work, and the simple joys that create a life well-lived.

Doris attended Broken Arrow and Coweta schools, forming lifelong friendships and laying the foundation for her future. She married the love of her life, Richard L. Murray, on December 21, 1978, in Wagoner, OK. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and the occasional adventure by the river.

Professionally, Doris was known for her skill and leadership at Sun Manufacturing in Coweta, where she worked as a machinist and shop supervisor. Her colleagues respected her for her work ethic and her ability to guide with both strength and compassion.

Doris's passions were as rich and varied as the life she led. She found joy in the simple pleasures of playing bingo, sewing, and spending time outdoors, especially camping at the river. Her dogs were her constant companions, and her love for them was a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Doris's greatest delight, however, was her family.

She is survived by her loving children, Jimmy Hand and wife Carol of Lamar, AR, Gary Hand of Coweta, OK, and Amy Asbill and husband Gerald of Pryor, OK. Doris's legacy continues through her 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom she adored. She is also survived by her siblings, Cheryl Reynolds and husband Rick of Coweta, OK, Paula Replogle of Broken Arrow, OK, Bruce Willhite of Coweta, OK, Kim Pearson and husband Jerry of Coweta, OK, and Kellie Miller and husband Chebon of Broken Arrow, OK, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard L. Murray, her parents, Homer Clinton and Sylvia Christine Willhite, her sister, Beverly Replogle, and her stepdaughter, Cheryl Murray.

Doris’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family. Her warmth, resilience, and the joy she found in every day will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Visitation for Doris will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK. Services celebrating her life will take place at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Community Baptist Church in Coweta, OK, with Pastor Adam Mask officiating. Doris will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK.
