Elmer Dodson Obituary

Elmer Leon Dodson, age 74, resident of Coweta, OK, passed away peacefully from this life to his heavenly home at his home in Coweta, OK, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Comforted by his wife at his side, he entered peacefully into the arms of Jesus. He was born on September 30, 1949, in Nowata, OK to Elmer Dodson and Mae D. (Cagle) Parker.

Leon's life was one of dedication and hard work. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, enlisting on May 22, 1968, and receiving an honorable discharge on January 6, 1969. His professional life was diverse, including roles as a truck driver, welder, machinist, and roofer. Leon's work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in every task he undertook.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Leon was deeply involved in his community and church. He was a faithful member of Clarksville Free Will Baptist Church in Porter and in years past, taught Sunday school at New Home Free Will Baptist Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and interactions with others.

Leon's passions were as varied as his skills. At a little white chapel, by an Assembly of God preacher, in Las Vegas, NV, Leon married the love of his life, Marianne Curtis, on June 8, 1989, and together they built a life filled with joy and laughter. Leon found pleasure in woodworking, painting, and leatherwork. He was also an avid builder of remote-control airplanes, a fisherman, an archer, and a musician who loved playing the guitar and singing. His creativity and zest for life were infectious, and he loved nothing more than sharing these interests with his family and friends.

Family was the center of Leon’s world. His love for each member was equally great. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marianne Dodson, of the home in Coweta, OK; his daughters, Jennifer Martins and her husband Drew of Bixby, OK, Amy Walkup of Coweta, OK, daughter-in-law, Misty Dodson of Coweta, OK and Angelia Guest and her husband Bryan of Arkansas; his son, Paul Labrum and his wife Charlaina of Rifle, CO; seventeen grandchildren, Mackenzie, Vivian, Jacob, Cade, Autumn, Ireland, Zach, A.J., Christopher, Gracie, Grant, Samantha, Stetson, Araminta, Brennan, Olivia, and Katelin; nine great-grandchildren, Oakley, Clancy, Stryder, Riggin, Kasey, Mattie, Braden, Emily, and Lance; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Dodson and Mae D. Parker, his son, Aaron Wade Dodson, his paternal stepmother, Edith Dodson, his maternal stepfather, Wes Parker, and his sister, Joyce Cory.
