Leonard Wilson Cornelius

Leonard Wilson Cornelius, age 69, resident of Wagoner went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, July 29, 2021 at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Leonard was born on November 4, 1951 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Virgil and Ina Pearl (Wofford) Cornelius.  He attended Broken Arrow and Coweta schools.  Leonard married the love of his life, Deborah Lynn “Debby” Whittington on June 6, 1970 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.  He worked for the City of Tulsa Water Department as a foreman for 42 years until he retired in 2012.  He was also a mechanic and enjoyed working on vehicles.  Leonard was a member of the Porter Freewill Baptist Church.  He loved his church family and was a true servant of God.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering, and riding his trike.  Leonard loved his family beyond measure and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, as they could do no wrong.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Debby Cornelius of the home in Wagoner, Oklahoma; his daughter, Lyndale Berry and husband Billy of Wagoner, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Wesley Berry and girlfriend Jessee Thayer of Wagoner, Oklahoma and Baylee Bennett and husband Tommy of Wagoner, Oklahoma; two great grandchildren, Brooklyn Lee Bennett and Oaklee Pearl Bennett; a great granddaughter on the way, Blake Eileen Berry; two brothers, James Cornelius and Dickie Cornelius; three sisters, Lucille Blevins, Melba Allen, and Sandy Stuck and husband Jeff; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  Services celebrating Leonard’s life will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Porter Freewill Baptist Church in Porter, Oklahoma with Pastor Greg Meadows and George Harris officiating.

Pallbearers are Floyd Bibb, Rusty Voyles, Will Streetman, Matt Moore, Dwayne Jenkins, and Dustin Allen.  Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Bowlin, Donnie Cornelius, and Virgil Cornelius.
