Mary Evelyn Van Tuyl

Mary Evelyn Van Tuyl, age 94, lifelong Coweta resident went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, October 22, 2020 at her home in Coweta, Oklahoma surrounded by her family.  She was born on January 26, 1926 in Coweta, Oklahoma and was the daughter of Thomas Lee “Tom” and Ethel (Wright) Williams.

Mary was raised in Coweta and graduated from Coweta High School where she was valedictorian of her class.  She married the love of her life, Donald Lee Van Tuyl on March 30, 1946 in Coweta and they were blessed with three children, Steve, Teresa, and Pam.  In 1971, Mary built Tasty Treat Restaurant and she owned and operated it until she was 81.  She also milked cows, did seamstress work, and sold eggs and milk.  She attended the First Christian Church in Coweta.  Mary enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, and she loved her Tasty Treat customers.  She was very family oriented and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Mary is survived by one son, Steve Van Tuyl and wife Jill of Coweta, Oklahoma; two daughters, Teresa Spears and husband Vester of Coweta, Oklahoma and Pam Withers and companion Jim Henry of Coweta, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kevin Withers and wife Sally, Wesley Spears, Bradley Spears, Natalie Clyma and husband Donnie, Kellie Green and husband Michael, and Rodney Van Tuyl and wife Sami; thirteen great grandchildren, Sydney, Lukas, and Madison Clyma, Presley, Wyatt, Warren, and Evelyn Green, Grayson, Barrett “Bear”, and Baylor Van Tuyl, Sawyer Spears, and Eli and Ryan Withers; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Van Tuyl; her parents, Tom and Ethel Williams; three brothers, Glenn Williams, Olaf Williams, and Bud Williams; one sister, Irene King; and one great grandson, Silas.

Viewing will be from 12:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2020.  Graveside services celebrating Mary’s life will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma with Tony Holmes officiating.
