Mary Evelyn Waters

Mary Evelyn Waters, age 80, resident of Coweta, Oklahoma entered into the Gates of Heaven on Friday, May 19, 2023, at St. John Hospital in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born on December 16, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee to Lawrence Claude and Mary Edna (Collier) Barrington. She was a cherished member of her family and community, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith.

After completing her early education, Mary attended Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida, where she pursued her passion for helping others. In 1973, Mary began working at the Georgia Department of Labor as a job placement manager, a role she held until her retirement in 2006. Throughout her career, she was dedicated to helping others find meaningful employment and was a respected member of her professional community. Her commitment to service extended beyond her work, as she was an active member of Lone Star Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma, following her move from Georgia in 2013.

Mary's interests were varied and reflected her love for life. She enjoyed reading books, planting flowers, caring for animals, and going on trips, especially to the beach. Mary was also a passionate sports enthusiast, particularly when it came to college football. As a dedicated "Roll Tide" fan, she enthusiastically cheered on her favorite team, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Mary is survived by her son, Joe Waters of Coweta, Oklahoma; her daughter, Jill Roberts of Titusville, Florida; three grandchildren, Chloe Jade Waters and life partner Nic Hickson of Coweta, Oklahoma, Piper Waters of Porter, Oklahoma, and Evelyn "EJ" Price of Titusville, Florida; her brother, Tony Barrington and wife Susi of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Barnett Waters, her parents, Lawrence Claude and Mary Edna Barrington, her daughter, Donna Waters, and her brother, Tim Barrington.

Visitation for Mary will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma. A service celebrating her life will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Lone Star Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma, with Rev. Sam Davis officiating.

As we gather to remember and honor Mary, we celebrate her life and the love she shared with those around her. Her spirit will live on in our hearts, and her memory will be cherished forever.
