Matthew Robert "Matt" Hurst

Matthew Robert Hurst, also known as “Matt”, age 49, resident of Haskell went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday evening, July 21, 2020 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Matt was born on January 19, 1971 in Claremore, Oklahoma and was the son of Bob G. and Geneva (Thomas) Hurst.

Matt was a 1990 graduate of Coweta High School.  He also attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma for two years.  Matt worked as an electrical contractor for many years.  He married Elaina Rogers and together they have two daughters, Brittany and Haley.  Elaina preceded him in death.  Matt married Rebecca Jane “Becky” Looper on January 18, 2020.  He enjoyed football and his favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners.  Matt also enjoyed going to church at New Bethel Assembly of God, fishing, playing with his granddaughter, and he loved spending time with his family.  Matt was a loving husband, son, father, grandpa, brother, and uncle who loved the Lord.

Matt is survived by his wife, Becky Hurst of the home in Haskell, Oklahoma; his mother, Geneva Hurst of Haskell, Oklahoma; two daughters, Brittany Rogers and Haley McElroy; two step-sons, Robby Dryden and Jordan Looper; two granddaughters, Icley Havener and Kinslee Dryden; four sisters, Debbie Jackson and husband Steve of Coweta, Oklahoma, Donna Young of Coweta, Oklahoma, Cherri Sherry and husband Joe of Coweta, OK, and Tracy Swarer and husband Jimmy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his nephews and nieces, Devin Hurst, Justin Sherry, Dillon Sherry, Carrie Gray and husband Josh, Lindsey Barnett and husband Wes, Josh and wife Dr. Karen Swarer, and Jacob Swarer; and numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, Bob G. Hurst; his brother, Steve Hurst; his paternal grandparents, Harvey and Sylvia Hurst; his maternal grandparents, Emmett Thomas and Ora Mae Richie; and his nephew, Bobby Hurst.

Viewing will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta.  Services celebrating Matt’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2020 at New Bethel Assembly of God Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with Pastor Kevin Williams officiating.  Matt will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta.
