Verlon Wood Obituary

Verlon Monroe Wood, age 87, resident of Coweta was born on November 23, 1932 in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma and was the son of Ben Wood and Mary Lou (Folsom) Faulkner.  He passed away on Wednesday morning, August 5, 2020 at his home in Coweta, Oklahoma.

Verlon was in the Army and served in the Korean War.  He married the love of his life, Fern (Stone) Wood on December 4, 1978 in Charleston, Arkansas.  He worked for many years for the State of Oklahoma in the Employment Service.  Verlon enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, writing, storytelling, and woodsman.  He never had a library card but read almost all the books in the library.  He was a charter member of the US Batfish.

Verlon is survived by his wife, Fern Wood; his daughter, Judy Anderegg; his sons, Kirk Withers and Kraig (Rhonda) Withers; his grandchildren, Kristin Sires, Billy Waren, Dean Warren, Stoney Powers, James Whitehead, Megan Withers, Maleri Withers, Keith Withers, Kretia Withers-Bristol, and Kevin Withers; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Verlon was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lou Folsom-Faulkner and Ben Wood; his daughters, Sherry Powers and Christy Wood; and his siblings, Vera (Otis) Stepp, Othel (Elmo) Milam, Kitty (Crockett) Carlton, Elliot (Mary) Wood, Commer (Mabel) Wood, and Valvin "Zab" (Fay) Wood.
