Vohn Barnes Obituary

Vohn Curtis Barnes, also known as “Booger”, was the oldest of thirteen children and was the son of Edna Mae (McDonald) Barnes and Columbus Barnes Sr.  He grew up in Coweta, Oklahoma and attended school at Kemper Public Schools.  He then started going to Carver High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he completed his education.  He moved back to Coweta to work in the fields to help his parents with his siblings.

Vohn was a hard worker in his early years and then he went off to join the Army, where he fought for his country for over 4 years.  He then went to work for Rayco where he started doing car upholstery and furniture upholstery.  He started working at Howard Top & Body Automotive where he worked for 35 years.  He was an entrepreneur who loved taking care of his wife, children, family, and anyone in need.  He would give his shirt off his back for his friends if they needed anything from him.

Vohn loved going fishing, he loved classic cars, he enjoyed collecting knives, and he was a proud family man.  He enjoyed life to the fullest.  If you knew him, you met a true friend.

In 1964, he met the love of his life, Beverly June Reed and they were married in 1965.  In July of 1965, they started a family together and were blessed with Dale Reed, Shawna Durant, Terrence Barnes, and Keith Barnes.  They have 30 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Those that preceded him in death were his two sons, Dale Reed and Terrence Barnes, his mother, Edna Mae Barnes, his father, Columbus Barnes Sr., two sisters, Donna Kay Atkins and Kimberly Worley, two brothers, Ricky Joe Barnes and Carl “Toley” Barnes, his maternal grandparents, Edward and Geneva McDonald, and his paternal grandparents, Henry and Lela Barnes.
